Staff Recruitment FAQs

Do I need experience to apply for a disability support worker role?

While experience is valuable, it's not always essential. We welcome applications from people new to disability support who have the right attitude, values, and willingness to learn. We provide comprehensive training and mentorship for team members starting their careers. Relevant qualifications (Certificate III/IV in Individual Support) are required, or you must be working toward them. Your passion for making a difference and commitment to learning matter most.

What qualifications do I need for different roles?

Requirements vary by role. Support workers need Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, NDIS Worker Screening, and First Aid/CPR. Registered nurses need current AHPRA registration and relevant nursing qualifications. Support coordinators typically need qualifications in disability, social work, or related fields, plus NDIS system knowledge. Domestic assistants need NDIS Worker Screening and a reliable work history. We support team members working toward qualifications.

Is the NDIS Worker Screening Clearance difficult to get?

The NDIS Worker Screening Check is a background check to ensure workers are suitable to work with people with disabilities. Most applicants with no serious criminal history obtain clearance without issues. The process takes 1-2 weeks in most states. We can guide you through the application process. The cost varies by state (typically $80-$150), which successful applicants can claim as a work expense.

What shifts and hours are available?

We offer diverse scheduling options to suit different lifestyles, including daytime shifts (morning, afternoon), evening and overnight shifts, weekend work, casual (flexible, varying hours), part-time (regular hours, guaranteed minimum), and full-time positions. During recruitment, we discuss your availability and preferences and match you with appropriate shifts.

How much can I earn as a disability support worker?

Pay rates align with NDIS pricing arrangements and relevant awards. Casual support workers typically earn $30-$45 per hour, depending on qualifications, shift type, and duties. Registered nurses earn higher rates ($45-$70+ per hour). Evening, weekend, and overnight shifts attract penalty rates. We provide transparent information about pay rates during the recruitment process and always comply with Fair Work requirements.

Will I be working with the same participants regularly?

Where possible, we assign workers to regular participants to build relationships and continuity of care. However, the exact arrangement depends on participant needs, your availability, and service type. Some roles offer consistent, regular shifts with the same people, while others involve varied participants. We discuss preferences during your interview and try to match you appropriately.

What training will I receive?

All new team members receive comprehensive induction training covering NDIS overview and Adore Healthcare policies, person-centered care principles, safety and risk management, manual handling and infection control, documentation and reporting, and participant rights and confidentiality. Ongoing training includes medication administration (for eligible workers), behavior support, specific disability types, skill development workshops, and professional development opportunities.

Can I work for Adore Healthcare while studying?

Yes! Many of our team members are students. Casual positions offer the flexibility to work around study commitments. If you're studying toward relevant qualifications (nursing, disability studies, social work, allied health), disability support work provides valuable practical experience while you learn. We're supportive of team members balancing work and education.

What support do I get as an employee?

You'll receive regular supervision meetings with your coordinator, access to management for questions or concerns 24/7, clinical supervision for nursing and complex roles, team meetings and peer support, professional development opportunities, and a supportive, collaborative team culture. We invest in our people and want you to feel valued and supported.

How do I apply if I'm currently working elsewhere?

You can apply even if currently employed elsewhere. We conduct confidential recruitment processes and can arrange interviews at times convenient for you. Many professionals transition to Adore Healthcare from other providers. We respect your current employment and maintain confidentiality throughout recruitment. If successful, we work with you to arrange an appropriate start date.
